Aeowyn, sister daughter of the now fallen King Theoden felt weak today and yet strangely restless. Her body longed to lie back on the comfortable bed and fall into the forgetfulness of sleep once more. Perhaps if she were honest with her self which she was trying not to be just now, perhaps she preferred to sink into an endless sleep of death and from there run to find her uncle, her cousin, her mother and father, all she had loved and lost so that her fragile heart was wrapped in layers of bitter tears and grief and hopelessness.
"Did I do the right thing, did I , was I in my right mind" she asked herself ceaselessly as her thin frame paced back and forth in the bed chamber.
She could still almost feel the tangible presence of King Aragorn. He had been right over there using the gifts bestowed upon him from the One to heal and bring peace.. He had called her back from the shadows of death to life. She had once more gazed upon the eyes that she had fallen in love with , once more she , the shielf maiden had listened to that soothing kind and yet incredibly strong voice.
And then came the moment at the wall as she watched and watched and waited; that moment that Faramir had stood beside her and talked. He had brought a steady sense of security and peace to her with his deep yet hushed voice. Goodness had poured forth from his lips, his heart seemed to be almost visible through his garment as he talked. As he came right out and told her she was fair and that he had already given his heart to her.
Those agonizing seconds when part of her screamed for Aragorn and part of her moved over and clung to this good man tormented her mind again and again in fragmented scenes.
Just like that she had given her yes and now they were to be one.
'Can I trust myself, have I done the right thing, the thing my heart cries out for or the thing I felt I should do so that this kind man should not break his own heart over me?
It had all seems so right and perfect only hours ago and jubilation had been theirs along with the joy of all the others. The Ring is gone, the evil madness has fallen and it's core is no more.Such joy, such release is beyond my understanding. And the winter of my mind passed from me and the sun came out and I desired no longer to be what I coveted all my life. Just hours ago I was content to be the wife and lover of my Lord Faramir.
Aeowyn stopped pacing. Her heart was hammering in a sickening fashion and she felt she would swoon.
The the face of her uncle came strongly before her, she could once again see his eyes full of a father's love for her. Her own beautiful eyes filled with tears and she sobbed as one just attending the funeral. And then his dear voice seemed to be right in the room with her.
'Dear Sister daughter, it is time for you to be happy, to smile and laugh; to look with joy to each morning-breathe the fresh wondrous air and rach for your loved one's hand. Your heart knows clearly who he is. Trust your heart."
The voice faded and the young woman, her face alight with certain joy and peace, her golden hair falling down to her waist in golden splendor clasped her hands.
There was a knock upon the door of her bed chamber and Aeowyn called 'enter'.
A middle aged woman , impeccably dressed in white and silvery green and smiling broadly called 'miss, come quickly, for Lord Aragorn and others, including your brother would take supper with you and enjoy your company."
"Coming, tell them I come' said the maiden quietly.
When the woman had departed Aeowyn washed her face and hands and combed her golden tresses and then hurried out of the room and down the long corridor.
When she walked through the door Aeowyn's heart skipped a beat. There standing in a circle of congeniality were the King, Lady Arwen,Aeomer and Faramir and many others.
It was Aragorn the KIng who saw her first. He raised his hand in greeting and she raised hers. Then running past him with a tiny curtsy Aeowyn flung herself deep into the embrace of Faramir.
"Is anything amiss'? asked that worthy man once the others had greeted the maiden and turned to other things.
"Amiss, no my lord, on the contrary. Nothing could be sweeter or more perfect for in your arms I see clearly I have, at last come home.'
Aeowyn did not see the single tear that fell from Faramir's eye to land on her head.
"And so too have I my love, so too have I ' he whispered and held the maiden tightly.
