having read the book and owned the original animated version i think this was a very good film it will never be as good as the book but i dread to think how long a film true to the story would last i believe that for the lenght of film they covered most of the story really well and me and my family watch it over and over as there are always bits we missed kestral

Fellowship of the Rings Ladygabbrielle
I personally thought this was a well done movie and it stayed with the story as well as it could. I believe that making movies from books is hard to do in order to stay true to the story and to make it as complete as possible. This was done very well and its seen even more so in the extended version of the movie.

Fellowship
this is a really great movie! Ok, so my fave lotr movie (key word: movie) is the Two Towers, but the Fellowship was done quite probably the best it could be done without lasting 10 hours. (not that I'd have a problem with that, you must understand.) I'm very impressed with with the job that Peter Jackson and company have done.

Tolkien rolls in grave Turner
Being an avid fan of the books, I was very excited about this movie. Unfortunately it definitely did NOT live up to either the hype or my own expectations/hopes. I saw "Fellowship" in the first day or 2 of screening, so the cinema was full to the brim with people. About halfway through the movie I realised: Jackson wasn't trying to impress fans of the book. He was dumbing the books down in order to gain "mainstream" approval (ie. he wanted 18 year old guys that listen to Snoop Dogg to watch/enjoy the movie.)

I barely sat through Fellowship, and it's been said many times before but Tom Bombadil should NEVER have been canned, but what's done is done and Jackson has now made a lot more money that Tolkien did himself, I'd say. This film's only redeeming points are the cinematography /special effects, the choice of New Zealand for scenery, and the book that the movie is (albeit loosely) based on. It gets a 2 just for them.

I Agree.
I too agree that Tom Bombadil shouldn't have been cut from the fellowship of the ring. He was my favorite character in the book, and quite frankly, I was most excited about seeing him when I first went to see the movie. However, the movie was still great, and I still like watching it.
